The Dresses Are Works of Art

"Stoneleigh Abbey has great connections with Jane Austen and our Jane Austen Tour has always proved to be popular, but even more so since we asked Julie Dutton if she could help us by creating some costumes for our guides to wear.

The visitors to the Abbey love the outfits - indeed, they are uncommonly lovely and beautifully made.

Since then we asked Julie to help again with a new Tour called Dark Deeds on which we needed guides dressed in Victorian Widows Weeds. For both projects Julie reasearched the period and has put so much detail into the dresses that they are works of art in themselves.

We are so so pleased with the results - Julie really listens to you and then exceeds any expectations that you may have. If we needed any more period costumes we would certainly want Julie to make them".

This late Victorian costume was made for the guide on the new 'Dark Deeds' tour at Stoneleigh Abbey. It was inspired by 'Widows Weeds', the formal dress worn throughout the mourning period.
